WHEN SCOTT KALIN ROARS off on
his annual trek to the motorcycle rally in
Sturgis, South Dakota, he knows by now
that his wife has remodeling mischief up
her sleeve. “ I had everything picked out
before he hit the road,” Jackie explains.
“ I gutted the bathroom and raced
through the flooring and paneling so I
could get to the fun part.” A storm that
knocked out power in her neighborhood
for days forced her to glue many of the
thousands of individual flat-back glass
gems by candlelight. Jackie, who runs
The Artists Group with two sisters and a
college friend, created the tree by
cutting up mirrors and art glass. “Scott
was thrilled and awed,” she says.
